1. Laser therapy

2. Dermabrasion and microdermabrasion

This procedure involves abrading the surface layer of skin cells with aluminium crystals under pressure. Over several treatments, scars may lessen.

3. Collagen injections or fat transfer

These methods involve 'filling in' of sunken areas cuases by scars to reduce its appearance.

The collagen injections lasts up to 6 months, and the autologous fat transfer method can last over 1 year.

So again, the treatment is not permanent and may need to be repeated to keep teh result intact.

4. Injections for keloid scars

For plump, raised keloid scars, corticosteroids are injected to reduce the size of the scar. Keloid scars differ from other scars in that they are large and plump instead of being shrunken in appearance.

This method is sometimes combined with other methods of scar removal.

5. Chemical peels.

This treatment is suitable for more surface scars and less suitable for deeper scars as a chemical peel takes off the surface layer of cells.

It can also be effective against blackhead and whiteheads.

Again, multiple treatments are needed, especially for more extensive or deeper scars.

So as you can see, there are various ways of treating chronic or long term acne scars. These methods can be expensive and require multiple treatments.
